Hi, hey, hello -
Thank you so much for your interest in supporting Swim by Elly and small, sustainable and ethical businesses like my own.
I started Swim by Elly for a few reasons, but one of them was to provide ethically and sustainably made swimwear at a more affordable and accessible price than what was available and on the market at the time. I understand that shopping ethically and sustainably is out of reach for many and can often be quite elitist, and my mission has always been to make sustainable and ethical choices more accessible.
As my business grows and expands, there are increasing overheads that have meant I need to increase my pricing just a little bit. I go through a dollar by dollar breakdown of what factors into my pricing in this TikTok video - https://www.tiktok.com/@swimbyelly/video/704892483....
I had an overwhelming response from you that you believe my pricing is too low and that I should be taking home more of a profit. However, I have always wanted to keep my pricing as low as possible and endeavour to continue doing that, even if it should means less in my bank account. I truly am living a comfortable and happy life and I really do value keeping my pricing as low as possible if if it means even one more person can choose the ethical and sustainable option this summer.
So, if you would like to (and I want to stress that there is absolutely no obligation for you to do so), I have set up a way for you to leave a tip with your order if you feel so inclined. Again, you are not under any obligation, nor do I expect or request you do so, but if you would like to, I would be grateful beyond words.
Any additional funds you leave will go towards the continued running of Swim by Elly, product development and expansion.
I would like to take a moment to thank the beautiful humans who support Swim by Elly (both financially, emotionally or from afar) for always having my back, celebrating my milestones with me and picking me up through the harder times. This is truly the most wholesome, respectful and supportive community and I genuinely am thankful every day for what we have build together.
All the best,
Swim by Elly is a small business located in Geelong, Australia that creates handmade, sustainable swimwear. Every piece is custom made to order from recycled, eco-friendly fabric. ECONYL regenerated nylon fabric technology turns recycled ocean waste like discarded fishing nets from the bottom of the ocean into high quality swimwear fabric that is UPF 50+, ultra-chlorine resistant, durable and long lasting. The fabric is not only recycled, but it can also be endlessly recycled and given new life - this means it never has to go to landfill!
Swim by Elly is committed to sustainability in all aspects of the brand, from the fabric used, to eco-friendly packaging options, to using a 100% carbon neutral courier to deliver orders and a 100% carbon neutral power company to power the brand.
Fast fashion is detrimental to the environment and choosing sustainable options to prevent further damage is now more important than ever, however sustainable fashion is often hard to access and comes with a hefty price tag. This brand was created with the hope of giving young girls and women access to sustainable fashion at an affordable price, so that making sustainable choices is easy and effortless.
Swim by Elly is purposefully 'slow fashion' and all orders are made to order to your custom size, style and colour preferences with the hopes of reducing any excess waste that is usually associated with the mass production of retail stores. All orders are handmade to order with love by Elly, who runs Swim by Elly under ethical working conditions and is paid a liveable wage. Our patterns and colours are also custom printed in Australia and are totally unique.
I acknowledge that Swim by Elly operate on stolen land. I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Wathaurong land where I work and live. I pay my respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging. I celebrate the stories, culture and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders of all communities who also work and live on this land. Always was and always will be.
